Low Impact Collisions

1 min read

Today’s topic is going to be low impact collisions. It’s now uncommon for motor vehicle accident victims to suffer soft tissue injuries at lower speeds. Some victims have sustained life-altering injuries when they are involved in accidents as low as 2,5 mph.

Scientific study

The largest scientific study on low impact motor vehicle collisions found 29% of participants sustain soft tissue injuries in accidents at 2,5 mpg. In comparison, 38% of participants sustained soft tissue injuries at 5 mph. These injuries consist of the bones and joints stretching and tearing, often involving tears in the tendons, muscles, and ligaments. The most common contributing factors to low back injuries are that the occupants can’t brace themselves nor force their backs and necks against the seat or headrests. Whether may be minor property damage the body gets snapped around and it sustains soft tissue injuries including bruises, plus chest and rib injuries.

Seatbelts #

It’s been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that while seatbelts save lives they can also cause injuries. Since the introduction of seatbelts legislation incidents of soft tissue injuries increase the astonishing 21%.
